SYNOPSIS

Billy Logan is released from prison after five years. That same night, in a closed and grimy bar in the port city (that could be Marseille), he finds his younger brother Nicky: drunk, desperate, and doomed.

Nicky has made a fatal mistake: he stole a huge amount of money from the Collmann brothers, the ruthless new faces of the local underworld. Though he returned the money, it wasn’t enough. The rule is clear: betrayal must be paid in blood.

But Nicky refuses to die by their hand. He begs Billy to end it himself – one shot, one last act of love, one minute to decide. Billy says no. Then yes. He pulls the trigger.

That moment changes everything.

Only one other person knows what really happened that night: Joe, the bartender. An old friend of the Logan family. Silent, precise, and terrifyingly well-informed. He cleans up the scene. No one is supposed to find out. The Collmann brothers don’t believe Nicky acted alone. They suspect he had an accomplice – maybe even his brother Billy. And if he did, the debt is not settled. They start circling again: asking questions, watching Billy, testing his limits, pushing until he reacts.

At the same time, Billy is trying to rebuild what little is left of his life. He made a promise to Nicky: take care of Mollie, his six-year-old daughter, and raise her far from all this. But keeping that promise means getting close to Lena, Nicky’s ex and Mollie’s mother, who wants nothing to do with Billy.

More painful still is the looming presence of Eleanor, their mother. Years ago, she kicked Billy out and never looked back—not even when he went to prison. She never visited. Never wrote. And now that Nicky is gone, she blames Billy for everything. For the path they took. For the people they became.

What she doesn’t know is that Billy was the one who pulled the trigger. But she doesn’t need to. In her eyes, he’s guilty anyway.

Haunted by guilt and hunted by suspicion, Billy tries to make sense of Nicky’s downfall. Something doesn’t add up. Maybe he was set up. Maybe someone inside the organization wanted him dead. Maybe Joe knows more than he’s saying.

Joe is an enigma: a man who’s survived every era of crime in Marseille without ever getting touched. Police look the other way. Mobsters nod when he walks by. His bar is a place of silence and secrets. It’s also the gravitational center of the series—where money changes hands, threats are whispered, and pasts resurface. As the pressure rises, Billy finds himself caught between his conscience and survival, between protecting Mollie and avenging Nicky. He starts investigating quietly, reaching out to the old guard of organized crime—men who hate the Collmanns for tearing up the old rules and taking power with brute force.

Billy isn’t a hero. But the Collmanns are a virus. And someone has to stop them. Throughout the six episodes, present events intertwine with flashbacks, slowly revealing how Billy and Nicky got here, what their family truly was, and what Joe is hiding. Every relationship is broken. Every choice has consequences. The line between justice and revenge gets thinner every day.

One Minute – The Blood Rule is a story of silence, guilt, and redemption. Of broken men trying to hold together what’s left of their blood.

Because in this world, blood doesn’t save you. It marks you. And the only way out… might be back in.

MAIN CHARACTERS & STORY ARCS

Billy Logan – Protagonist

38, an ex-convict, marked by his past. After five years in prison, Billy returns to a world he tried to leave behind. His journey begins with a quest for redemption, but his brother’s killing drags him back into crime.

His inner conflict between protecting his family and bearing the weight of guilt will push him to face uncomfortable truths and search for a new identity. His struggle with his mother, Nicky’s ex, and the Collmanns will bring him to the edge. To uncover the truth, he’ll have to seek help from those who, like him, despise the Collmanns: the old criminal guard.

Nicky Logan – Younger brother, story catalyst

29, more instinctive, more emotional. Raised in Billy’s shadow, he spent years trying to prove he wasn’t just “the good one.” But the path he chose led to a dead end. Though he dies in the first episode, Nicky remains the emotional and narrative center of the series. Through flashbacks, we see his transformation: from an idealistic computer whiz to a man who stepped too far into the criminal world, driven by a need for recognition and protection. His final act — asking Billy to kill him — is desperate but deeply human, and sets in motion the moral conflict at the core of the series. The truth about his death, his supposed betrayal, and his ties to Joe and the Collmanns will only be revealed at the end — and may restore justice. Or not.

Lena – Nicky’s former partner than Billy's ally

28, mother of Mollie. A strong and protective young woman. Initially distrustful of Billy, Lena is forced to work with him to protect her daughter. Their relationship evolves from hostility to a fragile alliance — and possibly something more. She is going to become Billy’s ally to defeat the Mafia, and later in the series, she will tell Billy that Mollie is actually her daughter and not Nicky’s.

Joe – The ambiguous mentor

65, bartender, enigmatic, keeper of secrets in the neighborhood, and in the Logan family. Seemingly an ally, Joe hides a dark past. His relationship with Billy grows more complex as truths emerge about his role in the death of the Logan brothers’ father and his ties to local crime. Manipulative and elusive, Joe knows everything about everyone, but trusts no one. In the end, he’ll help Billy seek justice for his brother and for his family.

Eleanor Logan – The mother

67, mother of Billy and Nicky. A hard, bitter woman marked by loss and resentment. Years ago, she threw Billy out of the house and never saw him again, not even during his time in prison. She never forgave him: not when he was locked up, nor when he was released. She blames him for Nicky’s death, for dragging him into that life from the very beginning. Her arc will force her to face her own grief, her pride, and — maybe — forgiveness.

Mollie – the kid

6 years old. Innocent and unaware of the criminal world around her. Mollie represents hope and innocence. Her presence forces Billy and Lena to confront their choices and search for a better future for her.

The Collmann Brothers – Antagonists

Young, ambitious, merciless leaders of the rising mafia. Their hunger for power and revenge brings them into direct conflict with Billy, becoming the catalyst for events that test every character. Billy seeks help from those who came before — old criminals who still believe in honor and despise the Collmanns’ methods. A silent war between two generations. Billy is no hero. But the Collmanns are a virus. And someone has to stop them.

SEASON ARC

Billy tries to protect Mollie and unmask the Collmanns, while battling his own demons and his mother’s contempt. Joe gradually reveals himself as the keeper of the past and the key to the truth. Family bonds are broken and repaired in a spiral of secrets and revenge. Billy discovers he has a daughter, and this is going to change everything for him.

The season’s climax revolves around the final confrontation with the Collmanns and the full revelation of Joe’s secret.

EPISODE PRESENTATION:

Episode 1 – One Minute

Billy is released from prison and finds his younger brother Nicky, hunted by the Collmanns. Billy spends the whole day looking for his brother, going around in his old neighborhood, the one he wanted to forget, visiting every friend or enemy to find his brother. Finally, he finds him in the old familiar bar where they grew up with their father.

Nicky is drunk, alone in the back, and asks Billy the most difficult question: Kill me and spare me a worse death. Joe witnesses everything and covers it up. From that moment on, Billy begins a journey into the very world he thought he had left behind.

Episode 2 – The Second Chance

Billy tries to keep the promise he made to Nicky: protect Mollie. He attempts to get closer to Lena, but she doesn’t trust him. He refuses to even talk about their mother – she disowned him years ago and never visited him in prison. Meanwhile, someone starts asking questions about Nicky’s possible accomplice. The Collmanns stay silent, but their presence is felt.

Episode 3 – Joe’s Pact

Billy returns to Joe’s bar, where he continues his search to understand what really happened to Nicky. Has someone framed him? Behind the silent facade of the bartender, too many truths are hidden. Joe begins to reveal pieces of the past – but always halfway. Meanwhile, the Collmanns intensify the pressure: they want to know who helped Nicky and think Billy is involved.

Episode 4 – Mollie

Mollie is in danger. A direct threat forces Lena and Billy into an uneasy alliance. As the child becomes the emotional heart of the story, Lena opens up to Billy and tells him that she’s his daughter, and not Nicky’s. This revelation makes Billy angry at Lena: if Nicky had known he was not the father, maybe he wouldn’t be dead at this time.

Episode 5 – The Wrong Brother

Eleanor lashes out at Billy, blaming him for everything. Increasingly detailed flashbacks reveal Nicky’s descent into crime – and the part Billy played in it, even unintentionally. Doubt about Joe becomes certainty: he was responsible for Billy’s and Nicky’s father’s death.

Lena makes her point to Billy about Mollie: she realised she was pregnant when Billy was already in prison. What would you do? She now tries to go back to Billy, but is it too late?

Episode 6 – The Blood Rule

Billy confronts the Collmanns with the help of the old criminal guard and Lena. The final showdown reveals the truth about Joe and the Logan brothers’ father. But no one walks away unscathed. In the last scene, Billy knocks on his mother’s door. She says nothing.

But this time, she lets him in.

LANGUAGE & LINGUISTIC NUANCES

The first idea is to shoot the series in Europe, possibly in France.

The language of One Minute – The Blood Rule is as essential to its identity as its characters and visual style. The dialogue is deliberately sharp and economical, reflecting the terse and often ambiguous relationships between the characters. The series primarily unfolds in English, allowing for accessibility in both French and Italian markets, but French is used strategically in key moments, particularly for characters like Nicky and the Collmann brothers, whose connection to the French criminal world adds depth to their personalities.

Additionally, some of the criminal characters, especially those with Italian origins, will speak in Italian dialect, further enriching the cultural layers of the narrative. This use of dialect, alongside the bilingual French-English dynamic, creates a linguistic richness that feels authentic to the characters’ backgrounds and the underworld they inhabit. The presence of Italian dialect also reinforces the connection between the French and Italian criminal underworlds, a key aspect of the series’ Franco-Italian context.

This bilingual and dialectical approach adds a natural fluidity to the series, with characters switching languages in moments of tension or when expressing their true selves. The interplay between French, English, and Italian dialects helps define the characters’ loyalties, histories, and motivations, drawing audiences deeper into a world where language is not just a tool for communication but a marker of identity and power.

The use of language, both in the dialogue and in the silences, is a central part of the storytelling.

The tension of One Minute – The Blood Rule often lies in what’s not said: the unspoken guilt, the shared history, and the weight of decisions that cannot be taken back. This careful control of language-coupled with a minimalist visual style-gives the series its emotional resonance, drawing audiences into a world where every word and every silence holds meaning.

NOTES OF THE AUTHOR

I’ve already filmed a scene from Episode 1 in which Billy kills his brother in Joe’s bar. This sequence is shot in a single take to give a clear sense of how I envision the series, the characters, and especially the dialogues. The lead actor of the pilot is French, as are the two Directors of Photography, which I believe adds a unique touch to the project. Watch it and tell me what you think about it. This “short movie” is going around Europe, collecting great reviews, and this is pushing me to make the series.

“One Minute – The Blood Rule is a crime series. But above all, it’s a story about family, and what we’re willing to do to protect it. Or destroy it.”
